Almost all of his posts that I've read so far link to other websites. Doesn't this break the ToS of "no advertising"?

I appologise for being fussy, but when reading through topics it gets annoying seeing posts that purely say "sign up here (website) and I'll answer your question".

Thank you for drawing this to our attention. We take breaches of our site Terms & Conditions very seriously and after careful consideration we would like to remind all forum participants that using the service in order to post links to other sites for advertising purposes will not be permitted. Repeated breaches will result in being banned from using the forum.

    Kind Regards,

    Ali

    Master Jmd,
What is wrong with posting links to other forums, which other members may be interested in? I'm not advertising anything for sale.Educating new & experienced collectors is very beneficial. You'd better be careful in what you say about other people.

    Ali,

Doesn't the 'no advertising' rule apply to websites that have anything for sale?

Mmmmmmm Hard one this BC numismatics does post interesting sites which indeed are linked to selling coins - but the trouble is an informative and interesting website has to get funds for being there and most get funds from selling coins to collectors.
This is the way everything works, you lot out there must understand this
I can think of a few exceptions like the excellent site on irish coins or indeed even wikopedia.
Please get in the real world folks.
Aiden please don't be so keen on the links , maybe just tell fellow collectors to google key words , that at least will probably guide most to the site you think is good

    Peter,
Telling people to type key words into Google is an absolute waste of time.

That is why I believe that posting links to relevant websites is much more convenient.

    Aidan.

    Hello!

We appreciate efforts to let others know about other useful sites and forums etc in order to help visitors find new and interesting information.

The problem is when those links and those posts are not in the context of a discussion and stand alone as exit points from this site to other sites unnecessarily (i.e. out of the context of a discussion).

Please Do: Offer links to interesting and relevant (non-commercial) information and sites WHERE RELEVANT and within the context of a discussion ONLY.

Please Don't: Start NEW threads with links to other sites UNLESS it is a DISCUSSION or QUESTION or post out of context links to other sites. This forum is not a noticeboard or place to make announcements - it is intended as a community where questions can be raised and issues DISCUSSED.

E.g. If a discussion is started with a QUESTION about what Numismatic Software is used or recommended by others it would be perfectly acceptable to provide links to sites with any such (non-commercial) software because it would be WITHIN the context of the discussion. If somebody wanted to tell us all about some great paid-for software, then mention it by all means, but do not link directly to it.

I hope that makes perfect sense and clears things up. Any questions, please ask.

We really do appreciate all contributions from forum members and hope that we can continue to improve the forum and make it an interesting and lively place to discuss Numismatics.

    Kind Regards
    Ali
